Viagra Restrictions Don’t Solve Anything

Okay, I’m the first to admit, and I can point out at least four articles where I said, “hey let’s mess with Viagra, then the men will see!”  It was all in the spirit of Get ‘em, girls! but damn I wasn’t serious.

Now Ohio State Senator Nina Turner (D), is adding fuel to the medical rights and privacy fire by introducing a bill that  require that physicians take specific actions before prescribing such drugs, including giving a cardiac stress test and making a referral to a sex therapist for confirmation that the patient’s symptoms are not due to one or more psychological conditions.

“We want to make sure that men, vulnerable, fragile men, who are not capable of making decisions for themselves, understand all of the side effects and the implications of these types of drugs,” Turner said in a telephone interview.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAHH NO! You’re just adding fuel to the fire. Especially with that verbage. Yes, yes, we all used that type of phrase to talk about the laws that white middle aged men try to push about women’s health, but if you use the exact line back at them, all you’re doing is making the issue worse.

The next result will be something even more restrictive about women’s health, and then women fire back, and then ’round and ’round and ’round it goes.

The fact is, contraception, abortion, Viagra, vasectomies… these are all private, medical issues that are the business of the individual, and their doctor. Not of the state legislature, or the federal government. Stay out of my uterus, stay out of his balls. BACK OFF.
