Why Being Single Rocks

Interestingly enough, bachelorette comes up as a misspelled word, suggesting that it be corrected to bachelor. So Firefox is not okay with a woman remaining single, but totally okay with a man doing so.

Rushing to Stupidity

Oh my God. Does he ever shut up? Seriously? All the smart-ass comments women across the country have made about giving him an aspirin to hold between his teeth, all the sponsors that have bailed on him… but he’s still going.

This time, his victim du jour is Ms. Tracie McMillan, author of “The American Way of Eating,” a book about the American food industry. All she did was get a book published more than five years ago, a year after graduating college.

“What is it with all of these young single white women, overeducated – doesn’t mean intelligent. For example, Tracie McMillan, the author of this book, seems to be just out of college and already she has been showered with awards, including the 2006 James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism. Social justice journalism. This woman who wrote the book on food inequality, food justice, got an award for social justice journalism.”

So.. overedcated? McMillan is quick to state she holds a “mere” B.A, so, no masters, no Ph.D. overeducated? I guess I must be a real dummy then, having multiple degrees. But then again, I’m not solely white, so maybe I’m exempt from this. Also… is it a problem with you, Rush, that someone can receive awards for hard work even if they’re only recently out of college?

McMillan takes it all like a champ, but has a few questions of her own. She says, “It just didn’t really occur to me that my being single would have any bearing on whether what my book was valid. It seems to be a way to dismiss my intelligence or capacity to do the work. I just wasn’t expecting anybody to say flat out that my work wasn’t valid because I’m a single woman.”

“I only have a B.A. I don’t have an advanced degree,” she goes on to say. “Maybe he thinks women shouldn’t go to college at all?”
